Blocks of the Month & Summer Stitching

Welcome to Wednesday!

Today I have been thinking. a lot about my quilting plans for the Summer (in Melbourne we are known for having 7 seasons in one day so I use the term as a suggestion).

Before I know it, it will be Christmas and all my sewing time over the next month will be focused on the holiday season. I have so many quilts to finish off with binding (My lovely mother does a lot of the final hand stitching on these but I have to attach the binding and send the quilts to her first). It is great to see your projects finished and even better seeing them pop up in family photos on Instagram!

I have a feeling that next month I want to focus on taking stock of all the quilts that I have already quilted and get them finished and to their forever homes. Having said that, I have been wanting to work on A Quilting Life’s Sherri’s annual Block of the Month since January and still haven’t started so I am going to make the blocks and update this post as they are finished to keep account of my progress. Sheri provides the BOM series for each year completely free from her blog. There are 12 blocks to download and make and then she also provides a setting in December and reveals her quilt on their YouTube podcast. After the end of the year the patterns are no longer free but are available through her etsy store to purchase. I have bought one of the patterns from previous years and I can attest to the quality of the design and the pattern instructions.

As I write this I am reminded that I also have completed all the hand pieced blocks for my ‘Caution - Curves Ahead’ quilt which has been Jen Kingwell’s Block of the month through 2022-2023. Best I hightail it to the studio and get these together and quilted so that I can enjoy this quilt. It is one I have made for myself out of complete fan girl vibes for this talented designer!

I also enjoy cross stitch, especially at Christmas time, so sometimes I do stitch a lot more on these project than starting new quilting project. I am a dedicated fan of the Stitching with the Housewives duo Priscilla and Chelsea and I love SubRosa Designs for a more traditional linen look.

That a wrap from me! Short and short again today. If you are not already, think about the quilts you have almost finished and consider who might be a perfect match for them if they haven’t already been intended for a special someone. Most of all — happy quilting!
