This is another sampler quilt also and I have noticed that I do tend to lean towards this style. I remember as a child I would spend hours looking closely at the crocheted rugs that my great grandmother used to make. I would be thinking of how she made each loop, and how long it must have taken her to do this, and how much she must love us all to make a special colourful crochet rug (afghan) for each of us. I sometimes do think about future generations or the family members who end up owning my quilts, and I do want them to be slightly captivated by the technique involved in creating different quilt blocks…in other words, I do want them to have something interesting to look at!
The pattern for this quilt is available in Quilter’s World magazines over a 4 part series. The Norfolk Sampler was designed by Wendy Sheppard (one of my favourite designers) and was a stack of fun to make! I really loved that some of the blocks were rectangular and of course loved all the stars too. It was the reason that I subscribed to Quilter’s World and I highly recommend this publication. It is very good value for the price and is available for download each season (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter). I am currently working on the new design that Wendy has in this year’s issues and will share more about that quilt (Chestnut Grove) in a future blog post.
I custom quilted my finished quilt top and the image here is showing part of a block in the process of being quilted. Today I am sharing my quilting designs for The Norfolk Sampler quilt and have made them available for downloading via the website as a free pdf file. I do ask if you would sign up to my newsletter to get my blog posts via email each week.
That a wrap from me, I will update the gallery with some images of the Norfolk Sampler in the process of being quilted and if I have any images of the final quilt I will add them to the gallery as well.
Have a great day, maybe you can see if there are any sew alongs that you might like to join but most of all — happy quilting!
